August/September trip to California

Well my humans are at it again!  This time they are taking me to "The land of the fruits and nuts!"  But, at least it will be closer for you to come and save me.  You will come and save me.  Right!?

I overheard my humans talking and they told me where they are going.  So, I expect a rescue party somewhere along the route.  Please click on the link below to see where we will be:

Aug 27th
We drove from the comfort of MY/our house over the worst roads in northern Arizona.  After what seemed a lifetime, my humans stopped in a "wide spot in the road" and ate lunch.  Then they drove some more until these two HUGE security guys came into the house.  These guys were in-charge of protecting the Hoover Dam.  They said they were looking for anyone or anything that would hurt the dam.  I was scared of them, so I hid under the blanket on the bed.

Here is a three minute video of us driving over the Hoover Dam:
https://youtu.be/8ETUOhEZWmA

The current water level of Lake Mead is 1,081.25. Just for information, the top of the Hoover Dam spill way is 1,229 feet.  So the lake is 148 feet low.  That's a lot of water!!

It was 106 degrees at the dam so my humans didn't leave me alone long enough for me to plan an escape.  But I'm working on it!!!  My humans also did not go through the Hoover Dam visitor center because they would have had to walk about a mile from the RV parking area to the visitors area.  With it being 106 degrees outside, they opted out.  My humans are WIMPS!!
After a while they finally stopped for the night just south of Las Vegas, at a campground called Canyon Trail RV Park.
A nice park with 156 RV parking spots.  Very large pull through and very nice bathrooms.  Worth the $40.00.

Aug 28th
I spent the whole night HOWLING to my humans.  I wanted attention and they were not giving it to me!  Plus, they were running the air conditioner all night long.  That thing makes noise, it vibrates and I don't like it.  Finally around 4 am I was tired and went to sleep.  I'll be glad when they get out of my bed so I can go to sleep properly!!!

Well, after several hours of bouncing up and down on the Nevada roads, my humans finally stopped at another campground.  This, again, was a no nothing full hookup with no shade RV park for only $25.00.  Can't beat that!  But, it is 118 degrees in Beatty Nevada.  To hot to plan an escape, so I'm going back to bed.

Aug 29th
First thing this morning my humans woke me up with all this bouncing on the roads.  What's up with that.  Can't a cat get any sleep.  My humans even tortured me with a roller coaster ride on highway 120, going through Inyo National Forest, which is due East of Yosemite National Park.
If you look closely at the sign, it says DIPS NEXT 5 MILES
This picture shows you the DIPS and the rain we drove into.

Finally, after 200 miles they stopped at a beautiful campground called Mono Vista RV park.  This RV park had lots of trees and BIRDS!!  I saw BIRDS!!! YEAH!!!
We all got some sleep because the temperature was very nice with light rain.  We had all the windows open, all night long.  It was nice.  The WiFi was very poor, but the park was very beautiful.

Aug 30.
Around 10 am, I went back to bed and my humans went back to torturing me.  They drove up the road to Topaz Lake RV Park.  It was a nice, slow drive through the Inyo National Forest.  We had road construction several times, but that was OK.  At one road construction, we watched as a helicopter was scooping water up in a bucket and dropping the water on a fire over the mountain ridge.
After a short 100 mile drive they parked in Topaz Lake RV Park.  This was an older park but we had a spot right on the water front.

After lunch, we had all just laid down for a nap when the park manager came.  She told us the police had just issued a mandatory evacuation because of a forest fire, just to the West.

It appears the fire jumped a road a couple of miles away and was on a direct path to us, within the next couple of hours.  Click here to read a short local article about the fire.
My humans decided to pack up and leave the area, now!  They drove 25 miles north to Carson Valley Casino in Minden, NV.  With all the evacuations, they wanted to get out while they could.
At least they didn't get anything burned, broken, scratched or hurt.  Tomorrow we should be near Sacramento California.  No fires but it will still be hot.  They are having a heat wave.  About 100 degrees or more during the day and 75 degrees at night.  What's with all the heat?

Aug 31st
My humans drove the hundred miles or so to Ponderosa Resort.  We found a nice shaded spot to park for the holiday weekend.

This is a Thousand Trails park (which we got 1 year free membership when we bought the motor home).  As you can see, it is a really shaded spot.  My humans will take me to church on Saturday.  They will drive the 30 miles or so to Granite Bay SDA Church.    This is the church that Doug Batchelor preaches at.  We will stay at the Ponderosa Resort here until the morning of September 5th.

Sep 2nd
My humans took me to church today.  Well, they went to church and I stayed in Lily.  They told me to protect it, but all I did was sleep.

They said after the sermon they stayed for the fellowship meal and had a great talk with Doug Batchelor.
The good looking one (the one that smells good) was very happy!!!

Sep 3th.
Today, this morning, right after I went to bed, MY humans took me on a ride.  Not a long ride, but it disturbed me none the less.  The drove Lily into town and did laundry.  It's kinda hard to sleep under the covers when there are no covers.  Finally, after what seemed liked days, I got my covers back.

Sep 4th
Today I made a new friend.  A furry little, tree climbing friend.

While my humans were out riding the side-by-side, they saw several deer.  They had a lot of fun!

Sep 5th
Today my humans tortured me some more.  They drove (what seemed like all day) to a place near Clear Lake, Ca called Island RV Park.

My humans drove 146 miles in one day.
Friends of my humans named Sally and Jim told my humans to drive on Route 20 from Williams, CA to Highway 101, in California.  Boy are they smart!!  This was one of the prettiest roads I've ever seen.  Nicest campground host we've every met!!

Sep 6th
My humans drove me all over the place today!  Starting and then stopping and then starting and then stopping.  It was an endless cycle!!
First we went to the "Drive Thru Tree Park".  While it was lovely, it was nothing but a big ol tree with a hole in it.  So what?  Here's a video of the drive thru the park.
Then we went to this really odd house built on the side of a hill, called Confusion Hill.  Odd place!!
We then stopped at the "One Log House".  A whole house built from just one LARGE redwood tree.
We also stopped at the "Grandfather Tree".  That was one big ass tree!  1800 years old, 265 feet tall and 24 feet in diameter!!
The one that smells good bought a "small live burl" from the Grandfather Tree.  I sniffed it....it is ok as far as I'm concerned, but not edible.  She says it will grow fronds and be a house plant.  Oh Boy!
Finally they stopped at the Richardson Grove RV Park, but the lady behind the counter was so surley and rude they left and went up the road to the KOA Campground.  They paid way to much for the KOA and the Wi-Fi went out, too.  Karma!!!

Sep 7th
They left the KOA after the early morning rain shower and drove up the Avenue of the Giants.  This world-famous scenic drive is a 31-mile portion of old Highway 101, which parallels Freeway 101 with its 51,222 acres of redwood groves. It is by far the most outstanding display of these giant trees in the entire 500 mile redwood belt and is accessible to all with convenient services provided along the way.  It was awesome!!!

They stopped by the "Shrine Drive Thru Tree" but it cost a lot to get in, so they left and went to the Giant Redwoods RV & Camp.  A really nice RV park with at least a several dozen giant trees.  My humans walked over to the river and collected some nice looking rocks.  Then the took the RZR 4 miles up the road to the Humboldt State Park visitors center.  Nice place with some humorous people.  My humans also learned that none of the local state parks have ATV trails.  All the trails are walking or biking trails.  Oh well!!!
As they drove on the Avenue of the Giants road, they could look up and see fog near the top of the mountains.  But no fog down below.

Sep 8th
My humans took me on another drive today.  But at least it was a short drive.  The 31 mile drive up the Avenue of the Giants to the Riverwalk RV Park in Fortuna with a couple of stops at gift shops, only took a couple of hours.  Once my humans got out of Lily at the RV park they noticed a tire was going flat on the trailer.  The RV park was full, so they drove to Les Schwab Tire Center in Fortuna.  There, the people fixed the flat tire for FREE!!!  The people were so friendly and nice.
After the tire was fixed (in less than an hour) they drove south again to the Stafford RV Park in Stafford, CA.  An older but very nice RV park, just off Highway 101.  My humans will spend two days here and go to church in Fortuna.

Late in the afternoon while I was protecting Lily
my humans left me alone so they could go out and play at the Eel River on the ATV.

Sep 9th and 10th
I liked this older but very quiet park so much I talked my humans into staying 2 extra days.  Even tho they tortured me with driving Lily into town when they went to church.  But hey, small price to pay!!

Sep 11th
My humans tortured me again.  They moved me about 120 miles south into the heat and away from the big, tall trees.  They stopped for the night at a no nothing campground called Golden Rule RV Park.   This place was down in a valley with no TV or Wi-Fi.  It was cheap for the night and now we know why.  There was nothing to do.

Sep 12th & 13th
The next morning they took off and came back to a really nice campground we've been at before.  This place has birds, ducks and herons right in our front yard.  We are at the Island RV Park.  This place has really good Wi-Fi,  But no TV.  It's pretty quiet at night with no loud parties.

The above pictures is at the boat ramp, which I can see from my front windshield view point.  And then at dusk, there are hundreds of sparrows that nest in the local trees.  I like this place!!!
But last night, I had to scare away a black cat that was trying to get to my humans while they were sleeping.  I was howling really loud and biting at the window screen trying to scare that cat away!!  Then the "mean human" closed the window on me.  That was just wrong!  After everything I've done for him.

My humans went for a short ATV ride this morning just exploring this tiny island we are on.  It is called Stubbs Island.  After returning, they decided to take a walk out to Route 20 and saw an old covered bridge.  It went over to an even smaller island called Clarks Island.  They walked over the foot bridge

and there were two very large fig trees and a bunch of ducks, but nothing else.
My female human was delighted to pick some ripe figs.  They don't look very appetizing to me, though.

Sep 14th
Just as a reminder, here is a map of where we have been up to now.  Click here.
To see a map of where we "think" will be for the next two weeks, click here.

So, my parents took me across the "world" today.  We went from Clear Lake to north of Sacramento.  They stopped for the night at the Thousand Trails Resort called Lake Minden.  It turns out the reservation people didn't know the rv park was under major construction.  Half of the park was closed and the clerk told them they would have to spend the night in the over flow lot, without utilities.  When my dad complained they found a spot for us with partial utilities.  Very odd behaviour!!

Sep 15th
Surprisingly, the construction was completed overnight and the closed section is now open.  So at 8:15 am we moved.  Their was a mad dash of people moving to the opened section because this section of the park is the only section with full utilities.  (Water, electric and sewer)  The Wi-Fi is on but nobody can surf the Internet because it is so slow. (management doesn't want to spend the money on high speed Internet)
Just as we were getting ready to eat lunch, the manager (Susan) came to my dad and told him the utility trailer and the RZR must be moved to storage at his cost.  It can not be at the campsite.  He asked why and she replied, "it's my policy".  She said the trailer goes to storage or you go!  So we left the resort.
We drove up the road to Yuba City, which is much closer to the church they are going to go to.  They will spend the weekend in a very clean, but VERY closely packed, rv park called Travelhome Park.  The Wi-Fi is weak, but it worked.  Well, early in the morning when nobody was on it.
Now I ask you, why do my parents pay a thousand dollars per year for a private exclusive club membership only to have managers like Susan change the rules in the middle of the game?  Or not offer the amenities which the membership states it has?  Also, Thousand Trails is now letting everyday campers come into their exclusive resort.  This is the second TT resort we've been to and they have not enforced the rules fairly.  Sometimes my parents are not too smart!!

Sep 16th
Today, my parents took me to church.  Well, they went to church and I stayed outside to guard Lily.  It was a good looking church called The Olivehurst Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
The congregation was about thirty people on the English side. They had a Spanish service (Seventh Day) is a room next to the main sanctuary.   About thirty people as well.  What was really cool was everybody joined each other in the fellowship hall, after service.  Spanish and English.  It was really nice and very very friendly.  And of course, lots of food!!
Later in the day my parents let me sit with them while they watched movies or tv.  She (who smells good) has a soft lap.

Sep 17th
Well, the good times are over.  My parents are on the move again.  Today they stopped at Walmart and then at Safeway.  I think they got me food, so I'm happy they stopped.  Later, they stopped at the side of the road very near a fresh produce stand.  The parking lot was big and it had shade.  So they stopped and ate lunch and then went shopping for fresh produce.  Whatever they got, it smelled good.
Late in the afternoon, my parents finally stopped for the night.  They stopped at the Yosemite Pines RV Resort & Family Lodging.   It has high speed Internet, but phone service is weak.

The park is HUGE with lots of trees.  TREES means BIRDS!!  I like birds.  Maybe some squirrels will come out and play?  Oooh, maybe a bear!?

Sep 18th
Late in the morning my parents left this lovely bird haven and drove 16 miles to another Thousand trails Resort.  They just refuse to learn from their mistakes!
After getting to the resort and getting Lily set up in between the trees in this lovely world of birds, my parents left me alone.  They took the RZR and drove off to Yosemite National park.
One of the first falls they saw was the Yosemite Falls.
Here is a close up of the same falls
Then they gawked at Half Dome

But the best looking water fall was the Bridal Veil falls
Here is a close up view
While they were watching the falls in awe, they witnessed the wind "holding back" the water at times.  Then the water would rush down.  Then the wind would "hold back" the water again, before releasing it.  At times it looked as if the rock side was drying up because the wind was "holding back" the water for so long.  Just awesome!!!

After several hours and driving a total of 60 miles in the RZR, they finally came back home and fed me!!  It's amazing how they almost make me starve sometimes!!

It was very quiet around Lily because we had no Verizon connection.  The nearest location to connect to Verizon was 2 miles down the road.  Wi-Fi was only at the Family Lodge and very slow.  The new manager said later this year he will be spending 65 thousand dollars on a new Wi-Fi tower.  I heard my parents talking about how this Thousand Trails is not like the other Thousand Trails.  This place had really nice people, lots of activities and trees.  Lots and lots of trees.  My dad went to the manager and told him that they really liked this Thousand Trails.

Sep 19th
Mid morning they left the Thousand Trails Resort and drove the winding mountainous road for what seemed like hours.  I think sometimes he drives these roads just to make me get car sick!  But the jokes on him, I'm sleeping under the pillow!!
After getting gas at $2.80 per gallon they finally stopped in North Fresno at the Fresno Mobile Home & RV Park for the night.  This was an old but very clean RV park.  It was filled mostly with people who stay here by the month. It was near a very loud street and had cats.  I don't like other cats!  They also did laundry and took a shower.

Sep 20
Mom and dad left all these feral cats and drove up into the mountains.  They drove East out of Fresno for a couple of hours until they arrived at Azalea Campground inside Kings Canyon National Park, which is near Sequoia National Park.  We spent the day dry camping.

(Which means no utilities)  No water, no electric, no internet but we had some spotty phone service.
When we got to the camp ground the temperature outside was around 70 to75 degrees.  Just beautiful!!!
My parents left me alone and took the RZR to General Grants tree.

After this they went up the hill to view the panoramic view of the Kings Canyon.  They could see God's beauty for miles and miles.  On the way to the top they saw a mule deer and a baby fawn.

If you look real close you can see the mommy deer in the center of the picture looking at us and the baby fawn over  next to the downed log.

Finally they came home and fed me.  After dinner I spent the evening watching all the squirrels and birds.

Here is a video of me watching the squirrels and birds.  I got really tired!  My parents kept me awake by laughing and talking all night.  They sat at the table and played cards and mostly ignored me.  That's OK, I was watching all the night animals.
Later after they went to bed, I joined them because it got cold.  It started to rain and got really cold.  I think it got down to 47 degrees but felt like 32 degrees.

Sep 21st
I am mad at my parents!!!  I swear they are trying to kill me.  This morning my dad turned on this THING which put out hot air and made noise.  I didn't like it!!  I know it was cold and rainy this morning.  But that's no reason for all of this noise. Then, they put this pot of water on the stove to boil.  That was fine.  It didn't make any noise.  But it did put a lot of water inside Lily.  I think my mom was scared the wall paper would come off from all the moisture in the air.  Finally I went back to the bedroom and hid under the covers.  I'm not ever getting out again!!
Then, around 9:30 am my parents started driving Lily again.  The rain had let up but the fog rolled in.  But off we go, down the mountain!!  He went fast too.  I bet he was doing 25 or 30 MPH down this windy, curvy mountain two lane road.  I peaked out from under the covers and at times I could see past the next bend in the road!  I swear he's trying to kill us.
After an hour we got out of the fog.  But he wouldn't stop driving.  He just kept on driving and driving until they got to Bakersfield River Run RV Park.
This was a nice clean GoodSam park with very fast Wi-Fi. It has a very nice bathroom/shower.   But we will only spend the night here.  It was very noisy here in the early morning with all the construction on the water canal behind the park.

Sep 22nd
Late in the morning my parents were on the move again.  This time about 1/2 hour east of Bakersfield California, my parents drove into and up through Kern Canyon on Highway 178.  Here is 5 minutes of the dash cam video.  As you can see, this road is beautiful but very narrow.  We finally got to Lake Isabella RV Resort.  We will be here for two days.
I got out of bed right away to check this place out.  Not as many birds as in the Azalea Campground in Kings Canyon.  But I'm looking.
Mom and dad went out on the RZR in the late afternoon.  They found some ATV trails over by the lake.

They came back all dirty and dusty and smiling ear to ear.  But at least they came back to feed me!!!

Sep 23rd
It was cold this morning.  I'll bet it was 47 degrees outside.  During the night I kept getting attacked by this noisy thing which blew hot air at me.  Then it would shut off, like I had defeated it.  Only for it to attack me later.  We fought like this all night long.  I gave up and went to sleep with my parents.  They don't care!  Finally, my parents woke up.  I'll let them deal with it, I'm going back to bed.
Mom and dad did nothing all morning.  But they did take me to a small church in town.  They took me to the Kern River Valley Church.  I stayed out side protecting (sleeping) while they did whatever they did!!  Sometime in the afternoon dad drove us back to the Isabella RV Resort where I helped them take a nap.

Sep 24th
So, mid morning my parents tortured me again.  This is getting to be an old story with no ending!!
When they start packing up Lily, I knew to hide under the covers or behind the pillows on the bed.  After a few hours they stopped for the day at Shady Lane RV Camp in Barstow, CA.   Very reasonably priced and very clean place to stay the night.   It's a nice family owned place but the Wi-Fi was very poor.  This did not make my dad happy.  But I think he got over it.

Sep 25th
Again mid morning they started getting ready to move, so I went to my hiding place.  After several hours of really windy driving, my parents stopped in Needles, CA at the Desert View RV Resort.  This place was a much larger RV park, but it was very well laid out.  The service people have done a wonderful job of keeping this place clean.  You can see the Oleander bushes separating the different camp spots.  After lunch my parents left me alone and went riding the RZR in the Mojave Desert.  They were gone about an hour and they were all dirty and dusty.  YUK!!!  But smiling from ear to ear!!

As you can see from the pictures, they rode out to and around some railroad tracks.  Two trains came by while they were near the tracks.  The engineers waved at them.

After my parents got clean, three guys from the the Set Free Church of Needles CA came by and washed Lily.  This is a service the church provides so they can make money. They only charge $1 per foot to wash.  I think my parents are so happy they don't have to wash Lily when they get home!!!

These three men were very nice to my parents.

Sep 26th
Again, late in the morning, my parents started packing Lily to travel so I went to my happy place.
A short hundred miles later they decided to stop at the Blake Ranch RV Park & Horse Motel.  This is a VERY clean and nice GoodSam Park.  For 1 night it only cost $36 for full hook-ups.  The place started filling up very quickly after 3 pm.
There was not a lot of shade trees, but the sites were large and level.

Late in the afternoon, mom and dad took the RZR out and got all dirty & dusty again.
They told me they saw a mule deer while out riding.  But did they bring it home for me to see?  Noooooo!!
There is a whole lot of nothing out here.  But it is very beautiful in a desert sort of way!

Sep 27th
After I had to wake my parents up to feed me, I went back to bed.  It took me forever to get them up!  That noisy box with the hot air kept blowing at me all night long, I even slept with my daddy for awhile.  But I'm not admitting I was scared or anything.  I was keeping him protected.  Yeah, that's what I did all night.  Anyway, they finally got around to feeding me.  I swear, if I didn't stay after them I would starve!!
It was a short drive today and finally I survived the torture.  Well almost.  As soon as we got home they put me in this room and then left me all alone while they emptied Lily.  I had to stay locked up!!  Finally (after what seemed days) I was allowed to get out of this room. I checked out the whole house.  It is just like I left it.  Nothing has changed.  I thought maybe there might be a dog!!!!
